My name is Jonathan Logan Mawanda, 27 years of age born and raised in Kampala Uganda. A contemporary abstract visual artist/ painter. I would say Art is partially a skill and a gift God given. I wouldn't say it's a family background norm because it's only my eldest brother who pursued it through his high school. Personally I got passion or interested in art way back in my primary seven where I had my small art book where I used to draw super hero cartoons, of which I still posses that art book till date. Through my art journey, I believe it's been hard work and practice because am not the most talented artist but because of the hard work, it's the visual artist i am today.   Just like one famous footballer said " Hard work beats talent"  I improved my art skill through schools like st.Julian High school, Naalaya SS Bweyogerere and later went on to advance it at Uganda Christian University.  Historical artists for instance Pablo Picasso, Leonardo Da vinci, Michaelangelo are some of the great painters that have to some extent influenced my works. Of which you try to depict and manipulate some of thier skills into your contemporary work. Though am an artist who would want my works to have my own natural touch or feel or trademark depending on the materials and colours used to have that personal touch in my works. Am also inspired by a great Ugandan painter Mr.Banadda Godfrey who grately impacted and matured me through University.  But majorly before I come up with an art piece, am mostly influenced by my environment, nature,day to day life experiences that help me have a story line behind my paintings. I like capturing the viewers eyes into an art piece through manipulating colours, objects to bring out a message or storyline in the works.  The painting selected among some of my works I tilled "HEREDITY", Size (35x50)cm , material acrylic paint on canvas made in 2020.  It's an abstract painting with a hidden massage of how we come to be who we are or come to have the habits or behaviour we posses in our day to day life. I used warm colours in this painting and segmented symbols of genetics as a finishing onto the art work. In the painting you can see a human eye on the left and then a mouth with the tongue out trying to lick the eye on the right side. The painting depicts an act that is usual in our day to day life therefore explaining the title HEREDITY i.e most people today find themselves with habits not knowing some of those habits they inherited them from maybe their families or ancestors. A good example would be the chronicle diseases like diabetes.    In a nutshell, I would want my art work to impact people's lives or touch Thier lives because I believe an art piece speaks a thousand words that may not be said by mouth. I believe Art in different forms of expressions can change the world.
